The Salisbury Zoo currently offers non-paid internships to high school seniors and above for the fall, spring and summer seasons. Our internships require a minimum commitment of 15 hours a week. Fall internships run September through the end of December. Spring internships run January through the end of May. Summer internships run June through the end of August. We also offer summer internships specifically connected to our summer camp program.
Internships are offered in the following areas: Education, Animal Keeper, Marketing and Development and the Animal Hospital. Each area offers opportunities to be exposed to real life zoo experiences.
Education interns work daily with the Education Animal Ambassador collection to provide care, handling, and enrichment as well as presenting them to the public. Keeper interns work with our exhibit collection animals for care and enrichment and assist daily in afternoon projects around the zoo. Keeper interns must be able to work both morning (8:00-12:00) and afternoon (1:00-5:00) shifts during the week.
Animal Hospital interns assist our coordinator in maintaining medical records, monitoring animals in the hospital and can be given opportunities to observe and possibly assist in medical procedures. To be considered for an internship in the hospital, you must have graduated high school and have prior hands on animal experience.
In order to assist in your continued education, we are willing to work with school advisers to offer the needed documentation to obtain credit for the internship
